JUDICIARY : Anambra CJ lays Achalla High Court foundation By: Ifeanyi Okonkwo


Chief Judge Anambra state His Lordship Hon. Justice P.N.C Umeadi on Thursday 7th February layed the foundation building of High Court in memory of Justice P. K Nwokedi, CON at  the Awka North Local Government Headquarter premises Achalla


Umeadi, in his speech begain by narrating when the magistrate court in Achalla was commissioned in 2003 and that ever since then, the relationship  between Igwe Alex Nwokedi OON (Uthoko N'eze Achalla) the Igwe of Achalla and the judiciary has come along way.

CJ, describe Igwe Nwokedi as a father, productive, intelligent, hardworking and has always been supportive to the entire judiciary in the state.

"The essence of building this project is to fill the large vecume that is in the system and not favoritism. If the project sees the light of the day, it will be the only hight court apart from the one at the state capital Awka.

"The court, all over the world is regarded as the temple of truth, equity and justice. A place were men and women are seen and treated equally.

"This is encouraging because it is a sign of development and will reduce the elongation of court cases and will make the judiciary achieve it's set out goals.

His Lordship expressed his profound gratitude to the executive Governor of Anambra state His Excellency Chief (Dr) Willie Obiano for always been supportive to the judiciary and for giving the third estate of the realm the free hand to run its affairs without interference.

Barr. M.O.Z Alor, the most senior lawyer in Awka North in his opening remark on behave of the LGA chairman expressed delight in the laying of the high court foundation emphasising that it's a new dawn not only for Achalla community but to the people of Awka North. "What we have been clamouring for has been brought to us and we are very grateful. He prayed God to grant more wisdom to the CJ as he continues to pilot the affairs of the judiciary.

Sir, Barr. Uche Nwokedi (SAN) KSS while giving the vote of thanks said "the creation of more courts weather magistrates or High court and the easy access to justice by everybody is what the Anambra state judiciary stands for.

"One of the difficulties we have in our society is how to protect and preserve our rights. When somebody has been wronged or when people in government has offended you,  it is access to justice that will determine what goes right.

"bringing a high court to Awka North LGA is a step in the right direction in our match towards democracy. We are not quite there yet but it's a very major step.The dice is cast. We are ready to start work.

The ceremony had in attendance His Royal Highness Igwe Alex Nwokedi, Judges, Magistrates and endigen of the community.
