PLENARY: Anambra Legislators express worry over erosion in Osumenyi


Members of Anambra state house of assembly have urged governor Willie Obiano as a matter of urgency to direct the commissioner for works and road beautification as well as the commissioner for environment to move to the gully erosion sit at Chisco house Amichi-Ogbodi-Osumenyi road in Nnewi South Local Government Area and put to a definate stop gully erosion now before it gets out of hand.


In a motion sponsored by  Kingsley Iruba member representing Nnewi South 1 constituency at pleary submitted saying 'the gully is fast developing with an alarming speed.

The lawmaker wo displayed the picture of the gully to the deputy speaker Harford Ikechkwu Osseke who presided the plenary, and to other members,  frowned at the condition of the road emphasasing that the said road is the only good road linking Amichi,  Ogbodi and Osumenyi towns though still under construction.

concerned that the said erosion development was as a result of the poor termination of flood chennel by Messers Martex construction internatioal limited, the contractor doing the said road.

The lawmaker expressed worries stating that the gully is now about 5,000 feet in dept and has cleared over 1 hector of land.

Iruba added saying ' it is more worrisom that the erosion is heading towards Eziama village, Amichi and if not checked and  controlled before the rainy season might wide out the entire village.

Osseke, in adding his voice to the motion said the road is in a very patiable condition and needs urgent attention .
