Using condoms during sexual intercourse reduces this infection chance by a further 95%. In most countries, medication for HIV is available immediately upon diagnosis. The medicines are very effective and reduce the virus numbers in the blood, semen and vaginal fluids to almost undetectable levels. In fact research is showing that individuals with HIV who are on regular and correct medication are effectively non-infective. So, if your HIV positive partner is taking medication for HIV (called Anti Retroviral Therapy or ART), and you take precautions of using condoms during sexual intercourse, the chances of you getting infected are negligible.
