Honourable Uche Okafor, a second- term lawmaker and member
representing Ayamelum constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly was
today, Wednesday, June 12, 2019 sworn-in as the Speaker of the 7th assembly.
This followed a motion moved by Hon. Edward Ibuzo, member representing Onitsha
North 2, and seconded by Hon. Lawrence Ezeudu, member representing Dunukofia
constituency.
Also, Hon. Paschal Agbodike, member representing Ihiala 2
constituency was sworn-in as the Deputy Speaker following a motion to that
effect moved by Hon. Emeka Aforka of Orumba North. The motion was seconded by
Hon. Tim Ifedioranma of Njikoka 1 constituency. The newly sworn-in speaker later took turns in administering
oaths of office and allegiance on the other elected members.
The 7th Anambra State House of Assembly has 30 members, 24
of the members were elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand
Alliance (APGA), the remaining 6 members were elected on the platform of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Secretary to Anambra State Government, Prof. Solo
Chukwulobelu, Head of Service, Barrister Harry Uduh, Mr Paul Nwosu, Special
Adviser to Governor Obiano on Farm Implements and Mechanization, the National
Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Ozomkpu Dr.
Victor Ike Oye
were among the dignitaries that witnessed the proceedings, and also friends and
family members of the elected representatives. For the principal officers, Hon. Dr. Nnamdi Okafor was
nominated as the Majority leader, while Hon. Emeka Aforka was nominated as
Deputy Majority Leader. The Chief Whip is Hon. Lawrence Ezeudu while Deputy
Chief Whip is Hon. Beverly Ikpeazu. The Minority leader is Hon. Onyebuchi Ofor,
while the Deputy Minority Leader is Honourable Ebele Ejiofor.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Uche Okafor appreciated
members of the 7th Assembly for electing him as the Speaker and assured them of
a vibrant legislature. He assured Ndi Anambra that the 7th Assembly will make
laws that will improve the quality of life of the people, and promised that the
Assembly will work collaboratively with the Executive and Judiciary arms of
government to achieve more in the state.
