Several persons have been reportedly trapped as a three-storey hotel building under construction collapsed in Abraka Community, Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State.
Six others,.who are also part of the workers survived as
they were quickly rescued by sympathisers in the area.
Details as to why the hotel building collapsed are still
sketchy at the time of this report.
The owner of the collapsed building, one Mr. Christopher
Onojakpenuri is nowhere be found. Efforts to reach him were unsuccessful.
An eyewitness, who spoke to Our Correspondent on condition
of anonymity, said they discovered that some persons were still trapped hours
after they’d rescued about six persons from the debris.
The eyewitness said,”I feel those people maybe dead by now.
“We are trying our best to see how we can bring all the
bodies we saw out from the collapsed building as I speak with you.
The eyewitness, however, blamed the building collapse on the
use of “substandard” materials by its owner.
When contacted, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP
Adeyinka Adeleke in a telephone chat with Our Correspondent confirmed the
report.
CP Adeleke said, “The building collapsed but we have not
been able to ascertain the number of people who are trapped. However, our men
are on ground to rescue the victims and until we do that, I cannot tell you the
number of those trapped.”
