His Magesty, Igwe Chidubem Iweka of Obosi Ukwalla kingdom
of Idemili North has urged residents of his community to continue promoting
peace and love beyond the festive seasons.
Eze Iweka made the call recently while addressing the
people of Obosi inland and urban communities including well-wishers during his
8th Obiora festival that held at Afor-Adike square, Obosi.
According to him,”Obiora festival marks the beginning of
new yam harvest and celebration as the king of crops. It also designates a
period of observance of peace in Obosi kingdom.
“Our ancestors adjoined the iwa-ji event with the
observance of peace, harmony, love and brotherhood, hence the strict law in
Obosi kingdom that fighting and quarrelling were prohibited during Obiora.
“Anyone found guilty of this violation is stringently
fined by ‘Ndi Omenani’- spiritual custodians of customs and traditions of
Obosi.
“We therefore urge the entire people of Obosi to extend
this advent of peace and love beyond Obiora festival. Let peace prevail in
Obosi land always regardless of festivity”, said Eze Iweka.
Moreover, Nigeria Medical Association, Anambra chapter
Chairman, Chief Ndudi Muonago called on more Obosi elites to come home and take
up leadership positions to help in development of their community.
He further advised youths to desist from vices that
endanger their lives and that of their neighbors urging them to pursue
academics or acquire skills instead of constituting a nuisance.
Earlier in his welcome address, President General Obosi
Development Union (ODU), Ike Okolo said that the Obiora festival attracts home
Obosi people from far and near to uphold their oneness and loyalty.
“We wish to remind you of our effort to restore Obosi to
her former glory. Let’s focus more on recovering our lost image. Let’s join
hands and make Obosi great again”, said Okolo.
President General Obosi Urban Landlords, Chief Emeka
Asimonye urged people to forgive one another in the spirit of Obiora and
brotherliness saying that there were no meaningful progresses without peace.
Highlights of the festival include special reception held
for Minister of Environment (State), Sharon Ikeazor and Chief Ndudi Muonago who
was recently appointed Board member Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University
Governing Council.
Others highlights include honoring of three African
Americans- Yewande Austine, Lee Monroe and Levar Stoney; masquerade and
traditional dances. Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, Senator Uche
Ekwunife were also present (MOI).
