According to Anambra State Fire Chief,Agbili Martin Agility, at about 1.42am of today, Saturday, January 11, 2020, Anambra State Fire Service received a distress of fire outbreak at Old Motor Spare Parts Market, Mgbuka, Obosi.
Immediately, they deployed Fire trucks and firefighters to the scene to fight the fire and ensure total control of the inferno.
There was no loss of life in the fire outbreak. Police officers and members of other security agencies were also on ground to maintain order and forestall possible looting of people's wares.
The cause of the fire outbreak is yet to be ascertained but the damage caused could be due to the nature of things being sold at the market which are mainly flammable materials.
In line with determination of the firemen to respond as they receive any distress call, firefighters had a sleepless night and struggles; and with the application of chemical foam compound, they were able to fight and control the fire.
Recall that after the unfortunate Ochanja Fire Outbreak, Gov Willie Obiano ordered immediate recruitment, training and retraining of Anambra Firemen; he overhauled the State's Fire Service; and donated tens of equipment including Quick Response Trucks, Fire Trucks, Chemical Foam Compounds, etc for improved firefighting.
Evidently, since that intervention by the governor, the Anambra State Firemen have prevented a good number of infernos especially from Tanker Falls, successfully controlled tens of fire outbreaks and saved us a lot of losses, lives and sorrows.
These Firemen deserve applause and special thanks to the general public for the assistance and support they give to firefighters during fire fighting. It is important to remember that fire is preventable and the time of call will always determine the time of response.
Ndi Anambra are happy with Gov Willie Obiano for revamping the State's Fire Service and for the ongoing project aimed at opening Fire Sub-Stations in all the markets/flash points in the State.
