...some operate with the help of Radio Presenters!
Following the shutting of some government activities aimed at managing the spread of Coronavirus, tax fraudsters are parading themselves as agents of Anambra State Government in an attempt to extort money from ndi Anambra.
These illegal tax collectors have devised some new methods which involves the use of popular media personalities especially radio presenters and social media influencers to give credence to their criminal activities.
While the criminals move about collecting illegal tolls and levies from the unsuspecting public, these media personalities aid their operation by reporting that the illegal tax collectors are sent by the State Government in an attempt to deceive the general public.
A case in hand is that of a presenter at Onitsha based Radio Sapientia known as JJ Agada Aguzie who was earlier today identified as a main source of such misleading information that make the tax fraudsters look like government agents.
A statement from Anambra State Revenue Service signed by Mr Emeh Blaiz Pascal of Tax Education and Enlightenment Team exposed the Radio Sapientia presenter and called the attention of ndi Anambra to one of the fake and misleading information circulating on social media platforms alleging that the Anambra State Government is asking people to pay taxes amidst the COVID19 crisis.
The statement also advised the public to disregard such story "as there is no truth in it" and reiterated that "AIRS was among the first organizations to comply with the 'work-from-home' directive from the state government in order to flatten the curve on COVID-19". Therefore, government tax agents can't be seen on the field at this point in time.
Gov Willie Obiano of Anambra State is planning a jumbo stimulus package that will help to alleviate the suffering of ndi Anambra in this hard time; thus, he cannot approve of such heartbreaking actions as being circulated by the radio presenter and his associates.
As the security agencies move to stop these criminals and investigate the ugly development, we urge ndi Anambra to be on the alert and avoid these tax fraudsters.
