On the 11th January, 2019 at about 6:48 am, police detectives attached to central police station (CPS) onitsha arrested one chinonye Okorie of Ogbaku Mbaitolu LGA of Imo state.
Chinonye, a SS 3 student stole a pant washed and spread on a rope at No. 21 Umuna street Odoakpu, Onitsha in Anambra state with the intent to sale it for ritual purpose to yet to be identified persons at the rate of Eighty Thousand (80,000) Naira
In a press release signed by the PPRO imploes the general public to be vigilant and report to the nearest police station any suspicious persons roaming around their vacinity for prompt action in other to avert this trend of crime in the society.
SP. Haruna Muhammad Police public Relation Officer (PPRO) while addressing press men after pareding the suspect at the police command Anambra state said "I want to use this opportunity to advice the public to be vigilant and careful especially those females who spread their pants outside.
"Investigation is still ongoing after which the suspect will be charged to court.
Suspect in an interview confessed saying " On my way back from school, I meet three men and on the course of our discussion they asked me if am comfortable with my situation, I said no. They told me if I can get one female pant, they will give me Eighty Thousand Naira. I was convinced and went into our compound and stole one pant that was spread. Unfortunately for me the sister of the owner of the pent saw me and raised alarm. I was taken to the vigelenta in our street who later handed me to the police."
Ofodile Mary (Owner of the pent) told reporters that the incident was narrated to her when she came back that very day.
According to her " This is not the first time pant have got missing in our compound. I have lost 5 excluding that of my mum and sister. "
Meanwhile, one pant is recovered as exhibit in possession of the suspect and effort is being intensified to apprehend other accomplices in order to bring them to justice.
