As part of his philanthropic activities, the business mogul and Nigeria's Polio Ambassador, Sir Emeka Offor, donated the sum of N8,520,000.00 (Eight Million, Five Hundred and Twenty Thousand Naira) to the department of Clinical Pharmacy, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), towards the furnishing of its Digital Anatomy Laboratory.
Presenting the cheque to the Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof. Amaechi Atama, on behalf of Offor, at the Faculty building, Nsukka, was the Head of Communications, Enugu Electricity Distribution PLC (EEDC), Emeka Ezeh.
The Clinical Pharmacy departments, in its effort to meet up with global best practices, approached Offor for assistance to enable it equip and furnishes its Digital Anatomy Laboratory, and in his usual magnanimity, Offor honored their request.
Reacting to the gesture, the Head of Clinical Pharmacy Department, Dr. Maxwell Adibe, expressed appreciation to Offor for coming to their aid.“The Faculty has been going after good spirited individuals for support, to drive fund as government alone can no longer cater for the needs of the institutions, and we extended our request to Offor and he granted us our request”
Adibe, went on to state that the Laboratory will be named after Offor, as a memorial of this gesture, so that generations to come will know that the lab was actually equipped by someone who is blessed, who has left his footprints in the sand of generations to come.“We resolved in our Faculty that anyone that comes to our aid, we shall name the project after the person and we are thrilled by this gesture” Adibe said.
In his reaction, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Atama thanked Offor for allowing himself to be used in ensuring that this project is a reality. According to him “Offor has taken the lead, and we hope that others like him should follow suit”, Atama said.
Offor, aside being the Chairman of Enugu Electricity Distribution PLC (EEDC), is the Chairman of Chrome Group and a successful business man, with chains of businesses locally and internationally. He is also a globally recognized philanthropist, who as Nigeria Polio Ambassador has donated millions of Dollars towards the eradication of Polio.
His act of philantophy has impacted lives, both within the South East region and beyond. Some of these acts include the book distribution initiative, where books as well as other educational materials are distributed to secondary and tertiary institutions; as well as the youth and widow empowerment program, where widows and youths in their numbers are trained and businesses set up for them to live a meaningful life and cater for their loved ones.
These activities are executed by his Foundation, Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF), a non-governmental organization involved in transforming lives through various intervention programmes such as: Youth Empowerment Scheme, Widows Cooperative Scheme, Education Scholarship Scheme, Health Scheme Services as well as Infrastructure Development Scheme. These have been ongoing over the years.
