As Ndi-Anambra anticipates for the governorship election
slated to hold in 2021, a group under the aegis of Youths Earnestly Seek Soludo
(YESS) numbering over one thousand last mobilized support for the former
Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo
(Odenigbo), describing him as most suitable and capable replacement for
Governor Willie Obiano come 2021 governorship election in Anambra State.
The maiden Stakeholders' meeting which had ward, town,
Local Government and Zonal coordinators of YESS in attendance attracted the
member of Presidential Economic Advisory Council, Professor Chukwuma Soludo.
In his address to the gathering, the Convener and the
leader of the group, Nelson Omenugha said the association after a careful study
and detailed analysis of political situation in Anambra State decided to queue
behind Soludo whom he described as an epitome of excellence, dexterity and
resourcefulness.
He explained that the Youths Earnestly Seek Soludo (YESS)
Stakeholder group was an organization of men and women who aligned with the
ideas and personality of Charles
Chukwuma Soludo, and were strongly working towards ensuring his emergence as
the next Governor of Anambra State.
Omenugha who is a PhD Candidate of Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool
University, China said that the Ex-CBN Boss had done a lot in human capital
development and deserved to be given a chance, saying that he (Soludo) had all
it takes to govern Anambra State.
He enjoined the coordinators to take message of Soludo
down to the 326 wards, towns, LGAs and Zones and as well expedite action in
mobilizing support for him, adding that the YESS which he described as a
movement was out to ensure that Soludo emerged as the next governor of Anambra
state.
The former students' leader advised the youths to shun
what he described as food is ready and cash and carry politics and embraced
politics of stockholding which, he said, was all about staking resources, time,
energy and intellect to enthrone an individual such as Soludo.
In his words 'We are here to market a brand; .Chukwuma
Charles Soludo is a brand. He is a sellable product. He is refined, exposed,
and super intelligent. We are here on self conviction. No one is paying us a
dime. We are here because we believe in Soludo. People are here because they
want to be part of this project.
'Our mission is to ensure that Soludo takes over the
mantle of leadership from Willie Obiano after he must have completed his
tenure. Our vision is to see him bring his overwhelming expertise in the
governance of Anambra State,' Omenugha concluded.
For his part, the Rector of Holy Family Youth Village,
Amansea, in Awka North LGA of Anambra State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Dominic Obielosi
urged YESS members to hold firmly and tenaciously to the movement, describing
Soludo as a gift to Ndi Anambra.
Contributing, the priest In-charge of St. Andrew's Parish
(Anglican Communion), Mgbakwu, in Awka North LGA, Rev. Kingsley Chukwukamma
said that he came because the name Soludo was mentioned, saying that he
(Soludo) has the solution to financial quagmire and appealed to him to consider
the pleas from YESS members.
Responding Prof. Soludo who was on transit and decided to
breeze in and listened to the yearnings of the youths, said he was overwhelmed
with joy seeing Anambra Youths asking him to come and lead them, noting that he
was still consulting with all the relevant stakeholders, adding that if at the
end of his consultation and decided to run, he would not hesitate to make it
public.
According to him 'I am speechless. Seeing this crowd
gladdens my heart. Seeing people like you clamoring for me to come and run
shows that there is something you think I possess and want me to bring it out.
I am happy that you people are asking me to come and contest. I am highly
honored. I want to tell you this, it is the Idea you sell that will change
people's lives and turn society around. I have enough ideas to sell.
'As a group we can sing a new song. I appreciate YESS
slogan which says "It is Possible". My Agenda will be a collective
project. I want all of you to make an input collectively and individually.
'Youths are the future and leaders of today not leaders
of tomorrow. At 32 I have met the criteria to be a Professor. Together we shall
get there and collectively put the state on the map. Let's synthesize our
contributions; it will be the people's agenda while we provide visionary
leadership. I'm inviting the youths to work with me, not for me. Let's work
hand in hand. The easier part of it is to get there; the hard work begins after
the fight is won.
'The women of Anambra State deserve more than 35%
affirmative action because they are very competent. I am so excited seeing you
people. I have so much to say but I am restraining myself from getting into the
real deal. We are following a due process. When I came up with my transformation
and consolidation agenda many Nigerians said it is impossible but I came and
turned things around.
