The Executive Governor
of Anambra State Chief Willie Obiano has describe the former Secretary-general
of Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku CON, CFR, GCVO as a man whom he will
continue to draw inspiration from.
Obiano made this
statement at the 10th Chief Emeka Anyaoku lecture series held at the Dora
Akunyili Woman Development Center, Awka, the state capital.
The number one citizen
of Anambra state who was the chief host of the event, in his remark said this
year's lecture couldn't have been more timely, particularly for Anambra state
as it prepares to elect a new government on November 6.
"I have always
said to myself if chief Emeka Anyaoku could lead the commonwealth with all the
diversities that came with it, then, the least I could do is to offer good
leadership to Ndi-Anambra".
"This lecture
themed 'Leadership And Good Governance in Nigeria" have reminded
Ndi-Anambra on the criteria to lookout for when choosing their next governor.
"I will continue
to draw inspiration from the qualities of Chief Emeka Anyaoku during his days
in public office. As the Secretary-general of Commonwealth, Anyaoku initiated measures
that ensured the enthronement of democracy and peace in South Africa and many
other African Countries. He changed how detained Africans were treated. These
act inspired many cultures and tradition in Africa".
The series of these
annual lectures has been hosted earlier by the Lagos, Ogun, Delta and Edo state
governments.
