Anambra legislators calls for road rehabilitation in Orumber south LGA

By: Ifeanyi  Okonkwo

Anambra State House of Assembly has Urge the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano to direct the commissioner for works to complete the Ezira Umuomaku-Enugu Umuonyia-Achina, road.

Chief Sponsor of the motion and Member representing Orumba south Constituency, Emmanuel Nwafor, moved the motion and was seconded by Member representing Ogbaru 1 constituency Nobel Chukwunonso Igwe.

Nwafor, while leading the debate, citing section 15(a) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) emphasized that it is the responsibility of the state to provide adequate facilities that will encourage free mobility of people, goods and services throughout the federation.

“The road which is about 12.475km, was awarded to an Arab contractor by the Governor Willie Obiano led administration in 2015 and concerned that only about 2km of the 12.475km and a bridge has been done since after the its flag off in April, 2015.

“This is the only road that allows communities like Agbudu, Onne access to the Orumba south LGA. Worried that the sudden abandoning of the Ezira-Umuomaku-Enugu Umuonya-Achina road has threatened the finished section of the road.

“Saddened that the deplorable condition of the road has affected the haulage of Agricultural equipment like tractors and planters thereby reducing the volume of agricultural products from the area and other social activities.

“Road network is one of the basic infractural necessities in any environment and is the responsibility of the state to provide it for its people. The people at this location have been forgotten. They are losing out in so many things”. Nwafor submitted

“Other legislators while commending the sponsor of the motion contributed to the motion through urging the relevant agencies to rise to the situation. “Something should be done very pro-actively. From all implied situation. It’s obvious that we have road problem. Our road are in a pitiable condition. After the rains, we should go back to work.

“Most of the motions passed on these chambers are mostly on roads. The house committee on works should follow up the contractors to make sure the roads are constructed. This area need to feel the presence of government. This is a matter of urgent importance.
