NATIONAL Light, the flagship publication of Anambra
Newspapers and Printing Corporation (ANPC) yesterday won gold at the Maiden
Anambra Media Excellence Award in the print category.
The event which took
place at Best Western Meloch Hotel, Awka saw National Light dusting other
newspapers and magazine stables producing in Anambra State to the top prize,
with Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ANPC, publishers of
National Light, Ka Ọ Dị Taa, Sportslight Xtra newspapers, Sir Chuka Nnabuife
also receiving an award.
Creme-de-la-creme
from all sectors that attended the awards ceremony Chief Press Secretary to Governor Obiano, Sir
James Eze and his deputy, Sir Emeka Ozumba, the Managing Director Anambra State
Clear Drainage and Forest Reservation Agency, Chief Chido Obidiegwu,
Igwe Raymond Odegbo of Nteje Abogu, veteran actors and
socialites, Bob Manuel Udokwu, Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Industry,
Chief Uchenna Okafor, Ifeanyi Aniagoh,
the Chairman of Anambra State Chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Sir Emma
Ifesinach,i among others.
Welcoming guests to
the ceremony, National President of Association of Digital Media Core Advocates
and chief convener of the event, Harris Chuma advised journalists and media
officers to discharge their professional duties with objectivity, in pursuit of
truth.
According to him,
inputs from men and women who tended the media industry in the nation,
particularly Anambra state deserves commendation for which new entrants should
emulate.
He therefore eulogized Gov. Willie Obiano for his undying
commitment to the media, saying that his supports for journalists in the state
and that of Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public
Enlightenment, Mr. C. Don Adinuba will leave a legacy of celebrating hard work.
“When we interact
and relate well, we become better in what we do because we become better
exposed to variety of knowledge on how to carry out our duties well.”
Speaking after receiving the awards won by National Light
and himself, Sir Chuka who was represented by a member of staff of ANPC
dedicated the honour to God and expressed gratitude to the organisers for the
special recognition accorded to him and the table.
“This is simply to
spur me to action. You know when you are appreciated for little; it means, come
up hither. Step up the good work and support. I am sincerely grateful to you
all. Thank you,” he said.
Another recipient of an award and Managing Director of
Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) Awka, Nze Uche Nworah charged media officers
in the state to unite with one another.
“Let love lead
amongst us. The only place we saw this then was in Lagos state. When we host an
event like this, it is the only platform we have to cool off the stress and
rigours of journalism and of the day. So we should come out en masse, cheer up
and connect with one another,” he said.
Other winners of
excellence awards were Omega 101.7 FM that won Best Radio Station award,, ABS
TV that won Best Television Station award, Mr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu who won Best
Blogger award, and Mr. Emeh Blaze Paschal, among others.
