It was a satanic and sorrowful Sunday on 12 December 2021
as a tanker laden with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) exploded at Chris-Tee filling
station near Boromio roundabout, Onitsha in Anambra state.
Though the remote cause of the explosion was not
ascertained but the men of the State Fire Service and FRSC Rescue Team
were said to be on ground working very hard to curtail the inferno.
According to the First Information Report on the fire
incident as put together by the acting Sector Public Education Officer Margret
Onabe, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, Corps
Commander Adeoye A Irelewuyi implored the public to be calm and patient,
while the Fire Service battled the fire and prevented it's escalation
while the area has been cordoned off and traffic diverted.
According to an eye witness account, the fire
started at CHRISTEE Gas plant and spread over to the two other near by Fuelling
Stations (CHRISTEE and SILVER Fuelling Stations).
The affected petrol stations were still in
flames but the Fire Service team were on top of the situation working
assiduously to put off the fire.
However, the total damages and casualties are yet to be
ascertained, as the fire was still burning.
Meanwhile the fire chief of the Anambra State Fire
Service Engr. Martin Onyedikachukwu Agbili said the men of the fire service
responded promptly.
Agbili who disclosed to our correspondent that the
fire incident began around 7:30 pm Sunday night, said that two tankers ladened
with fuel and about 7 cars were burnt to ashes.
Although he said no life was lost in the hell fire, he
said about 4 fire trucks were on ground and fire fighters fought the fire to a
standstill while they left the scene at about 1:25 am Monday morning.
