Uzuegbunam Okagbue the Chief Protocol Officer to Governor Willie Obiano has declared his intention to represent Anambra-Central senatorial district in the next political dispensation, saying that he is fully prepared for the contest.
Okagbue who made his declaration at his Umunnachi country home in Dunukofia local government area of Anambra state, said he was not afraid of so-called big names in the senatorial district but believes very strongly that his 16 years of passionate service to humanity was enough credential for him to obtain the mandate of the people for the all-important legislative assignment at the Red Chambers of the National Assembly in 2023.
The 44 year old Uzuegbunam Okagbue said he would pursue his senatorial ambition on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) but equally craved the indulgence of the party to profile the personalities of all the aspirants contesting on the platform of APGA and also ensure the conduct of a free, fair and credible primary election as he believes that it is the party that would decide who gets the ticket.
He said, " The ticket of Central Senatorial District of our great party All Progressives Grand Alliance does not belong to one man.
We also appreciate the support of the party to Sen. Victor Umeh in the last 8 years when nobody was ready to represent the Central under our great party APGA.
Today, two other persons have indicated interest for the same ticket. First, I will implore the party to profile the personalities of all the aspirants and after that ensure that there is a free, fair and credible primary election and the party will decide who to fly their ticket, if truly we want to have a senator from our own political party to represent this district. "
Okagbue who stated that he was prepared to face the likes of the incumbent senator representing Anambra-Central Senatorial District Sen. Uche Lilian Ekwunife and other contestants if given APGA ticket, noted that he has been fully involved in community development programmes; building hospitals, houses for the homeless, providing lifelines for the poor and the needy as a private persons adding that he was not going to the senate for personal aggrandizements.
According to him, his inspiration for aspiring to the upper legislature in the National Assembly was to do things differently such that Anambra-Central Senatorial District would become cynosure of the three senatorial districts in Anambra state.
Okagbue said, " Whatever is the total earnings of a senator is, I will put the entire dime in my first year to the development of the 58 communities of Anambra-Central Senatorial District. I will put my personal earnings for the development of my senatorial district.
It has never been done before and that is what I have committed to do, if elected the senator representing Anambra-Central Senatorial zone.
I remain the best person to represent Anambra-Central senatorial zone because in both personal and vocational capacities, I do things differently.
If Ndi-Anambra-central want a different outcome then the man who is essentially different should be sent to do the work.
I will not make offers to buy people but I will make efforts to change the way Anambra-Central is represented.
I have the basic funds for a standard electioneering campaigns but I don't have the funds for sycophants and political jobbers. "
