By Nneka Anoliefo

Anambra State  New Commissioner For Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Collins Nwabunwanne has charged  the staff  to imbibe work ethics.

Commissioner Nwabunwanne gave the charge shortly after visiting and inspecting  some departments in the ministry at the Government House,  Awka.

The commissioner, who was conducted round the departments by the permanent secretary, Mrs Pauline Nwandu, and some unit heads, harped on the need for staff to also imbibe the  principles of public life such as selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, honesty and openness.

He promised to operate an open door policy to enable staff communicate  policies and procedures upfront,

He advised staff to cooperate and adhere to the laid down ethical standards, as well as imbibe good behaviors and discipline.

Commissioner Nwabunwanne promised to provide  confidentiality where staff can be free to consult on ethical issues and seek protection against retaliation for reporting misconduct.

He further enjoined workers  to be dedicated and committed to duty  to justify their pay, and also warned against  lateness, truancy and loitering, even as he wants staff to  provide access to records and documents when they are needed.

Responding, the permanent secretary of the ministry,  Mrs Nwandu, who welcomed the commissioner to his new office,  promised to ensure that all staff members perform their functions creditably and  with the highest standard of integrity.

She prayed God to give the commissioner wisdom like that of Solomon to pilot the affairs of the ministry and raise it to enviable heights.
